Extraordinary situations need extraordinary people.
If you recall 2020 global pandemic, it is still a night mare. It did not stop spreading until the vaccine is discovered and distributed across the country. In fact, it did not leave any stone unturned. It impacted people from all walks of life.
It alarmed the whole world and left us with no clue. Safety measures like face masks and sanitizers are the only way to defend it in the first place.
At one point of time, Govt of India has included Face Masks and Sanitizers under the Essential commodities act, 1955 to regulate the production
Nevertheless, the shortage for Masks persisted.
Mr. Basavaraju Srinivas, a former political party leader turned social activist, realized the severity of the situation and took an initiative. Basavaraju Srinivas believed that it was his fundamental duty as a citizen to come forward and protect Front-line warriors first.
He, through his NGO called BSSF (Bharat Seva Sahakaar Forum) distributed face masks, PPE Kits, sanitizers, water dispensers, face shields, N95 masks to all the front-line warriors.
Front-line warriors includes (Police department, GHMC workers, Bankers, Doctors, Medical staff, Print and Electronic media etc.) in two telugu speaking states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
Later it went on like a mission. BSSF through its volunteer network provided 51,40,000 (Fifty-one lakhs, forty thousand) masks across India.
The voluntary and selfless service has created a lot of buzz through various mediums.
Mr. Basavaraju Srinivas has been named Mask man of India by the HMTV, endorsed by Ministry of Culture, Government of India at the National Cultural Festival, Hyderabad.
